TIPS for a perfect photo:

When taking a picture, make sure your lighting is even on your subject. For example, when you have one side shaded and the other lit up, that makes for an odd looking photo. Have the subject facing the light and it hitting the face evenly. On your camera, check your settings and select the largest image setting. This makes a larger photo that can capture the details much better.

Indoor photo's don't work well at all. Occasionally I see indoor pics that are great and most are from professional photographers that have the correct lighting. It's not an easy task to capture the best lighting indoors. So always go for outdoor clear photo's.

As for the subject, zoom into the face or head of the pet, get a mug shot. You can also take some body shots as well. If you just don't have any photos that look well, take a day and spend outdoors with your pet and try to capture that perfect pic. It may take a couple of tries of doing this but eventually you WILL get a great pic. This picture you capture will be turned into a painted portrait and will show all the fine details of your furbaby and capture a special moment.

Remember, the bigger and clearer photo with the correct lighting, makes for a perfect portrait.
Picture
Clear photo with soft lighting and appears even on the face. Body is slightly blurred (Defocused) so makes it slightly difficult to find some lines to work with. But overall not a bad photo and can be done as a painting.

Large clear photo with correct lighting
Note: As you can see, the dog's coat is black and gray from the lighting. That's what your portrait will show..the true colors from your photo. If your pet is black all over and the light makes him look gray all over, you will get a painted gray pet. Spots are easy to fix, but the whole dog would take major changes and so this would create added costs. So your photo selection is crucial in having the correct colors for your painted portrait.

Indoor photo. Too dark, small and unclear to paint

Perfect head shot with perfect lighting-Photo by Patty Naimo
Picture
This photo is small, blurry and too dark. I could not do this for a portrait.
Picture
The lighting here is off. Only one side is lit. The head isn't even all the way in the picture. Also too small. This will not work.
Picture
Even lighting, outdoor photo, clear and large.
Picture
Even though this is a larger photo, it was taken with a cell phone therefore is very unclear. This cannot be created into a painting. Pixels too low. ( I see way too many of these)

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!

THE BEST PHOTO'S

When selecting a photo for a portrait, look for a clear bright photo. Outdoor photo's do well. Blurry or cell phone type photo's have a lower pixel and are hard to blow up to work with sufficiently, so detail is limited. I will accept indoor cell phone pics (if not too bad) but there will be a $50 extra fee. Also if your photo doesn't show the true colors of your subject, this will cause the portrait to not be what you are expecting. If the colors are off, PLEASE add a note to the bottom of the forms letting me know. And send multiple photos for me to compare to. I want your portrait to be all that it can be. With your help on selecting a photo it will be a crucial step, so please consider all of your options. You may send multiple photos (via computer please, not from a cell phone) to see which would work the best. Thank you for making your portrait all that it can be for a lifetime of wonderful memories. If for some reason I don't think your photo will work well, I will email you asking for others. To cut down on back and forth asking you, feel free to send several.

I would like to say, I am able to make subtle changes and I expect those small changes to the portrait (so that it looks like your pet or whatever we are painting) once I get close to the finished product. So please decide what you would like before ordering. If you are not sure, feel free to email me and let's talk it over and get some ideas. Once portrait is painted and you selected say, a certain color of background or alike and decide on a different color, you may incur more charges for the extra time to change it. I can do subtle changes to the subject or objects but I cannot move an object (for example a toy) once it has been placed and painted in portrait. More time would be involved. I want you to be happy with your portrait for many years but I also cannot spend a week of work on it for $75 or whatever that cost may be for your choice of portrait. Please understand my time is valuable as well and so in cases like this, I will have to add a cost for changes made. Thank you for this understanding.
